Olivia Ong (オリビア・オン Olivia Ong?, born October 2, 1985) is a Chinese Singaporean singer. She sings mostly in English but developed her career singing in English and, later, Japanese. In addition, she has also released rare tracks, recorded in Mandarin Chinese, which can be found on limited edition album tracklistings.

Likened to Seiko Matsuda, she won a singing contest and was signed to a Japanese recording company S2S Pte Ltd at only 15. Olivia, along with 2 other singaporean girls formed the japanese pop group, Mirai. Their first single, Open Up Your Mind, was 1 of the theme songs in the japanese anime (Gensoumaden Saiyuki).

After taking her O-level examinations in Singapore, Olivia moved to Japan to further her studies as well as her career as a solo artist. In Japan, she became a member of a Japanese pop (J-pop) group called Mirai, before she released her bestselling début, "A Girl Meets Bossa Nova" at only 19. With her sultry, soulful, pristine and innocent vocals, she reinterprets Frank Sinatra's hits such as "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars", among other jazz and pop numbers. She is one of the new wave of Singaporean talent being exported internationally. So far, Olivia is the only pop sensation exported exclusively to Japan; previous stars such as Mavis Hee, Kit Chan, Tanya Chua, Joi Chua, Stefanie Sun, Michelle Saram etc, have only been exporting to the Greater Chinese market.

Olivia became a big hit back home in Singapore after she sang the theme song of the drama serial, "The Little Nyonya". She had stated that her paternal grandfather is Peranakan.


Campus SuperStar (Chinese: 校园 SuperStar) is a spin-off of Project SuperStar, a popular singing talent-search competition in Singapore. The contestants comprise students from secondary schools, junior colleges and Institutes of Technical Education (ITEs). This differs from Project Superstar, where contestants must be over 18 to participate.

To date, there have been 3 seasons of Campus SuperStar. Season 1 and 2 featured 20 contestants who competed in succeeding episodes and eliminated until the final four to compete in the Grand Final, where only 1 would be crowned Campus SuperStar. However, there was a revamp in the 3rd season, instead of the usual 20 contestants, only 12 made it to the quarter-final rounds. Each episode had two segments. The first segment was the performance segment where contestants performed in the Mediacorp studio and were judged. This would be broadcast live from 8pm to 9pm on Channel U every Monday. Public voting through telepoll and SMS would start from time of broadcast, and would extend till 10pm (for Seasons 1 and 2). For Season 3, public voting would end at 9.30pm instead. The second segment, the result show, would be pre-recorded slightly after 10pm, where scores from the judges and from the voting by members of the public through SMS and telepoll would combine to determine the contestant(s) eliminated that night. The result show would then be broadcast on the same channel at 11.30pm.

The contestants are given a score from each judge based on their singing techniques, body language, and presentation. The scores were between 1 and 10, with 5 considered a passing score. In Season 1, judges' scores constituted 30% of the overall score, while the other 70% came from the public's SMS and call-in votes.[1] This percentage allocation was reversed for Season 2, but was reverted back to the original ratios starting from the semi-final rounds. [2]. For Season 3, the percentage allocation will be the same as Season 2, with the exception that for the Grand Final, it will be 50% judging and 50% voting.

Movie Review:


Much like Pixar is revered in Hollywood as the undisputed producer of high-quality 3D animated films, Studio Ghibli certainly deserves its status as the gold standard as far as Japanese anime is concerned. What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that Studio Ghibli still relies on traditional hand-drawn 2D animation for the majority of its anime films. Its latest anime feature "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea" not only maintains this tradition, it raises the bar even higher by having the entire anime made using hand-drawn animation, of which a whopping 170,000 images were used.

For this feature, director-writer Hayao Miyazaki has chosen to reinterpret the age-old Little Mermaid tale by introducing us to Ponyo, a goldfish with a human face who yearns to be entirely human. Through a twist of fate, she gets to befriend a 5-year-old boy named Sosuke. After being held captive by her father Fujimoto, Ponyo escapes while transforming herself into a human girl through the use of Fujimoto's magic, resulting in a huge thunderstorm and massive flood for upsetting the balance of the human world and sea world due to her transformation. Sosuke and Ponyo find themselves not only in a quest to reunite with each other, but to restore the balance of the two worlds as well.

As anime enthusiasts would know, Miyazaki is known for including nature and friendship themes in his works. "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea" is by no means an exception to the rule. The sea plays a large part in the film as if it is a character, which is beautifully hand-drawn and animated by Miyazaki himself. The overall storyline is solely focused on the relationship between Ponyo and Sosuke, further simplifying the plot for the benefit of child viewers. The other Miyazaki trademark of uniquely interesting characters is also in abundance here. From Ponyo's little siblings, the wave demons to Ponyo herself, there is never a dull moment when these characters appear onscreen. Miyazaki even takes inspiration from his own loved ones in creating two of the human characters: Sosuke is based on his son Goro when Goro was 5 years old, whereas Toki, the unpleasant old lady in the old folks' home where Sosuke's mother works, is actually based on Miyazaki's mother.

One of the minor complaints I have about the film is its lack of tension, considering the fact that it is partly an adventure film. When Ponyo and Sosuke set out to search for Sosuke's mother across the flooded areas after the thunderstorm, there is never any sense of impending danger. Instead, they are shown having a relaxing time cruising around while animal-watching and meeting people. The other issue is that there is no elaboration on how Sosuke's mother and the old ladies from the old folks' home end up where they are near the film's final moments. One could argue that this is after all, a children's movie, so the absence of tension and exposition is still forgivable, but adult viewers who have higher expectations may disagree.

Having said that, it is best to enjoy the film for what it is. A simple story of friendship filled with endearing characters fit for children of all ages. If the bright and lively watercoloured visuals can't grab their attention, perhaps the energetic voiceovers will. One of the strengths that Japanese anime has over Western animated films are the excellent voice casting which does not bank on star power, allowing the audience to appreciate the film more for its content rather than noting whose voices are behind the scenes. Suspension of disbelief is also required, so you can stop wondering how Fujimoto, who is obviously human, can have Ponyo the goldfish as his daughter.

If you are a fan of Miyazaki's previous works such as "My Neighbour Totoro" and "Spirited Away", you won�t be disappointed with this one. In fact, you might find yourself singing along to the Ponyo theme song and getting yourself a Ponyo toy after you leave the cinema.

Centralised Online Registration System (CORS) is designed for students to register for their modules; with the exception of students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry, who should refer to their department for module registration instructions.

Unless you are in one of the faculties mentioned above, you will need to use CORS to register your General, Minor, Breath, GEM and SS modules during the module registration period.

While the university advances towards a broad-based education, you will be required to enroll in modules across faculties - a system must be established to facilitate you, and at the same time, allow the teaching departments to manage their resources optimally. Since module selection and module allocation are mission critical exercises for you as well as the university, there must be fairness, equity and responsibility.

Hence, the bidding system was developed to accomplish these objectives. The bidding system requires you to make careful considerations of your priorities, as each decision has an impact on your future choices - it is a good training ground to prepare you for life after graduation. It is an opportunity to educate you on the need to weigh your options, make decisions and live with the consequences of your actions.

Mr Teo Sze Siong's body has been identified by his family. Two other CAAS officers were with him - one is injured, while the other remains missing. -AsiaOne

Mr Teo Sze Siong's family has positively identified him as the Singaporean casualty in Wednesday's Santika Club blaze.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Singapore embassy in Bangkok are currently assisting the family to repatriate the body safely and speedily.

The MFA also conveyed their condolences to the family of Mr Teo Sze Siong in a statement issued today.

In a statement from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) released today, they said there were two other officers with Mr Teo - one officer is injured while the other is missing.

In their statement, CAAS also expressed their heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Mr Teo's family.

According to CAAS, Mr Teo joined CAAS in 1995. He served with dedication as an air traffic controller at the Singapore Air Traffic Control Centre and Changi Control Tower.

He took on planning and managerial positions at CAAS and was an active member of a team which oversaw the planning of air traffic control systems.

Mr Teo was very well-liked by his colleagues. He was also a very good mentor to younger air traffic controllers who held him in high regard.


CAAS' Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lim Kim Choon, expressed his deepest sympathies. "CAAS has lost a good officer. We share the grief of Mr Teo's family and friends. Our prayers are also with
the families of two other CAAS officers who were with Mr Teo when the fire broke out.

"One officer is injured and has been hospitalised while the other remains unaccounted for. Our hearts go out to the families of these three officers.

"CAAS has extended support to the families and will render the necessary assistance to them in this very difficult time."

A team of officers from CAAS is leaving for Bangkok today to assist the families of the officers and to visit the injured officer.

In Singapore, CAAS staff have been in contact with the families of the three officers to provide any support and assistance they require.
